We are working on a project for KCC’s Commissioning Manager for Dementia looking at the dementia care pathway and focussing on three main themes: information, diagnosis and personalisation. We will be working in the six localities across Kent.
We will be speaking to a wide range of people; people with dementia, carers, frontline workers, younger people and people who have no experience of dementia throughout the last few months of 2011. We hope that following on from these initial conversations a few people from each locality will want to take an idea or issue that has come up and work alongside us to develop something that may help with the identified problem or issue.
We can’t say what we will be working towards at this stage as we want this project to be led by the people we speak to. Although we have been asked to look at three main themes if we talk to people and they decide that those three things aren’t an issue but identify something else they would like to focus on then we are happy to be led by them. People are the experts of their own lives and are best placed to decide what they need. In this project we are hoping to give people (people with dementia or their carers) the space to design a something that is going to help them and others in similar situations.
We will be updating our blog with project developments but if anyone has any specific questions they would like to ask us please get in touch: silk.team@kent.gov.uk

Where this project sits within the SILK framework
This project currently sits within Diamond 2 of the SILK Methodology but as we are working with people to co-design something that they have chosen to develop we hope that this project will move into Diamond 3
